Our expansion into London allows us to provide direct access to the highest quality English law advice. It amplifies our ability to assist our clients worldwide in navigating disputes or investigations with a nexus to the UK or English law. We have both senior English and US-qualified lawyers based in London.
Building on the strength of our internationally renowned dispute resolution and regulatory investigation practices, our London office is focused around three core areas of practice: complex commercial disputes, international arbitration and white collar defence and investigations.
The key sectors we advise across include banking and financial services, energy and resources, defence and government contracts, infrastructure, telecommunications, automotive, hospitality, insurance, healthcare and life sciences. We also advise on contentious and non-contentious IP matters (including patent litigation).
Complex Commercial Disputes
Our team has acted on some of the most high-profile and complex litigation to come before the English courts over the past several decades, and we continue to represent clients from around the world with their most important and sensitive litigation, consistent with the 2015 BTI Litigation Outlook description of our firm as “a powerhouse in complex commercial litigation”. Our legal advice is always provided as part of a broader commercial strategy, and whilst we understand when to litigate we will aim to resolve disputes via alternative means wherever this will provide a better outcome for the client. The team has particular experience conducting multi-jurisdictional litigation and in securing and enforcing court orders, judgments and awards in overseas territories, including throughout the emerging and frontier markets. Despite these capabilities and experience, our business model allows us to act on the sorts of headline cases from which many of London’s other leading law firms are conflicted.
Our dedicated international arbitration lawyers combine a proven track record of skilful advocacy with decades of experience representing clients in complex and demanding arbitrations across the globe. The team has acted in cross-border commercial and investment arbitrations administered by institutions including the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), American Arbitration Association / International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA/ICDR) and the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC).
White Collar Defence and Investigations
In times of continued focus by regulators and enforcement agencies on the activities of corporations and financial institutions, our experienced team handles some of the most important matters for our clients. We conduct internal investigations for corporations, as well as defending both corporations and their former and current senior executives against enforcement action or prosecution.
The practice also has significant experience in advising clients on compliance with relevant laws and regulations, ranging from advising on establishing appropriate anti-bribery, anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance programmes, to advising on ensuring an entity is not involved in the facilitation of tax evasion or in breach of regulations concerning modern slavery. The practice is highly experienced in advising clients on how to deal with breaches of such regulations should they occur.
Our recent experience includes advising on and investigating issues in connection with allegations of LIBOR manipulation, FCPA and Bribery Act violations and action by the Serious Fraud Office, Department of Justice and sector-specific regulators.
